Tonight was the last night to use wristbands for unlimited rides. I picked Lauren up on my way home from work and we drove to the fair. She paid for parking and entry tickets. We rode the Ring of Fire, The Matterhorn, The Sizzler, The Egyptian Boat Ride, The Tilt-A-Whirl, The Hang Gliders, and The Spinning Guitars (Middle Eastern Themed Here). The Ring of Fire was terrifying but amazing. I had my eyes closed the entire time. Lauren asked if I was "getting in the zone?" on that one.
The momentum and speed we got on the Tilt-A-Whirl was unbelievable! I did my best to shift our body weight into the turns. The drop was so big we would go around, and around, and around 3 or 4 times in less than a second. Lauren and I were laughing so hard at the immense rotation I got dizzy and felt like I was about to vomit. It. Was. Amazing!!!
Sometime early on we stopped by the food trucks and Lauren got a pretzel. We talked about her high school trips to Disney, her time and choir, and a series of unfortunate events both of us remember from childhood. These included bleeding, head trauma, and the drama of teenage girls. She was about to throw out the rest of her pretzel but I grabbed the last piece. It was sweet, like sour dough bread.
One of the last things we did was play the horse racing carnival game, where you have to roll Skee Balls to get your horse to move forward. The first game was only me and Lauren; her playing horse 6, and I playing horse 7. Lauren pulled off a victory just by the skin of her teeth. We thought we were going to play another round just the two of us, when six more people sat right beside us. With eight of us total, the race was on! Thirteen took an early lead, then six raced right ahead. Seconds later I caught up with my horse #7 and after a 3-pointer crossed the finish line and won the grand prize! The game master let us get two prizes and I let Lauren pick them out for herself. She chose a giant stuffed raccoon (cuter than it sounds), and a small gray elephant stuffed animal. I also gave Lauren a practice interview while we were in line for the Matterhorn.
